Free-hand embroidery on canvas. A commission for my roommate, who brought me three bags to embroider.
My process involved taking the bags apart at the side seams and then painting them with watered-down acrylic paint. I use a non-computerized Pfaff machine equipped with a darning foot, which allows you to stitch in any direction at any speed. I never draw the design before hand, and prefer to just go for it and unpick any lines that I don't like. Depending on the tension of the machine, sometimes the bobbin thread appears on the front of the bag, giving the line a speckled appearance. This is one of my favorite things to do, but each of these bags takes anywhere from 5 to infinity hours. |

We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you  the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on.
